A five-day holiday club plan, complete and ready-to-run John HardwickA More Than Gold approved title for 2012 Contains five complete 2 1/2 hour programmes plus extra ideas for a special service or event. World class sport brings people together, but sport at the local level encourages people to exercise, eat good wholesome food, develop new skills, build team spirit and have a target to aim for. Above all, at both levels there is no doubt that sport is lots of fun! Many great sporting heroes come from very ordinary backgrounds - often its sheer hard work and belief in what they can achieve that earns them success. When linked to a life of faith, such stories of success can be compared to one of the great Old Testament heroes: David - a small town boy who made it big! Running alongside the primary theme of David's rise from shepherd boy to king of Israel, the material links the biblical teaching to contemporary living by exploring five essential ingredients of sport, not just for healthy living, but also as a tool for spiritual well-being on the journey of faith.
These are: Looking after our bodies Looking after our self-esteem Looking after our well-being Looking after our sense of team spirit Looking after our minds Contains five complete two-and-a-half hour programmes plus extra ideas for a special service or event. Includes photocopy permission.
We really enjoyed putting on Sports Academy - the kids enjoyed the club immensely. They really love Bert and Lucy and the Watt family. John's is a formula which works well here in Drumnadrochit (on the shores of Lock Ness). Revd Hugh Watt, Urquhart and Glenmoriston Parish Church From The Good Bookstall - 10 April 2012 It is so evident from the start that John Hardwick is writing this book from the vast experience he has gained over years of high quality delivery. The biggest stumbling block for churches running successful holiday clubs of any sort is the planning stage. John not only inspires the concept of sports as an option for holiday clubs but equips the reader with a plethora of ideas to pick and choose from accounting for which would be most relevant to your own specific bunch of young people. The bible stories are well thought out and presented in an engaging, entertaining format with the great addition of songs, activities and all the background paperwork you will need to make it happen. With the Olympics inspiring churches throughout the country to use sport in their own community, this book will prove a healthy resource option for a local church. Reviewed by Barry Mason
